Micheál Ó Bríain talks to Pádraic Ó Raghallaigh about his childhood in Spiddal, Co. Galway.

Micheál Ó Bríain lived in Coilleach, Spiddal near Coláiste Chonnacht. During the summer many visitors stayed in houses in the area where would come to do Irish courses.

Growing up Michéal says that his teacher Máistir Ó Flatharta had a strong influence on him. His interest in acting came from the  drama club in Spiddal which during the summer would produce plays for visitors to the area.

Micheál Ó Bríain joined the Abbey Theatre in 1943. Among his many roles for RTÉ television he played Michael McDermott in the long running 'Glenroe' series.
