Former RTÉ London Editor, Mike Burns is awarded an MBE from Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace.

Mike Burns began his career as a reporter for the Sunday Independent and Sunday Review. In 1963 he joined RTÉ as a writer for the RTV Guide (now the RTÉ Guide). From there he moved on to news features, and was one of the early reporters on the escalating violence in Northern Ireland, for which he earned a Jacob's award.

In 1971 he co-authored the Burns-Liston report, which was highly critical of RTÉ News. He moved to London when he became London editor and was PR for the British and Irish Inter-Parliamentary body between 1990 and 2009.

Mike Burns was decorated by the Queen and then posed for photographs with his family following the ceremony outside Buckingham Palace. The award acknowledges his services to Anglo-Irish relations throughout his career.
