It's not all farming and agricultural stands at this year's Ploughing Championships. There's something for everyone in the audience! If you find yourself in want of a wander, there are plenty of stands that are worth a visit. We have picked our top five things that we're looking forward to at the Ploughing.
Baking.
Following the popularity of last year's Brown Bread Baking Competition, the contest is set to return to find Ireland's best loaf of brown bread! Maybe you'e tried and failed at home to make your own batch, and you need some inspiration. You can witness the semi-finals and finals of this competition live at the Ploughing Championships, and watch as one lucky person wins a prize worth €15,000. And with this year's competition, it's not only the adults who can enter, with Foróige having their own National Junior Baking Competition.
Weather.
As most of us know, there is no guarantee of weather; good or bad. So be prepared for anything, rain, hail or shine! We're looking forward to seeing what weather we are greeted with during the three days, and how many various pieces of clothing we will bring and not need to use. Sure, wouldn't it be rude to leave the wellies AND the suncream at home? Plus when you're there, why not present the weather yourself? Nuala Carey and co will be on hand to teach you how its done and you can jump in front of the cameras in the RTÉ tent and present!
The RTÉ Guide.
Ever dreamed of being on the cover of the RTÉ Guide? It's okay, we all have. But if you're going to the Ploughing 2016, you can make that dream come true. For a discounted price of one euro, if you buy a copy of the RTÉ Guide, you can get your own version! Go visit the RTÉ tent (Block 2, Row 13, Stand 302) and you can get your picture put on the cover, with a print out available for you to take home and show off.
Farming.
We can't forget the farming, of course. That's what the Ploughing is all about, after all. There is ploughing competitions, and Ireland's first tractor football match will be taking place, so don't forget to keep an eye and an ear out to see who wins!
Food.
There's food galore at the Ploughing Championships this year, with The Good Food Karma project happening. Each day you will be treated to live demos with the experts teaching you how to recreate their fabulous dishes, as well as Q&A's on everything from kid's snacks, to discussions about fish versus meat. All of this is taking place with some of the best in the business, which is guaranteed to make you hungry.
