The so-called Islamic State militant group this morning claimed responsibility via its official radio station for a gun attack on an anti-Muslim event in Texas over the weekend.
The event showcased cartoons mocking the Prophet Muhammad.
"Two of the soldiers of the caliphate executed an attack on an art exhibit in Garland, Texas, and this exhibit was portraying negative pictures of the Prophet Muhammad," the jihadist group said.
Two gunmen were shot dead by police when they attempted to storm the exhibition.
They have been identified as roommates from Arizona, one of them a suspected jihadist.
Several US media identified the shooters as 31-year-old Elton Simpson and 34-year-old Nadir Soofi.
According to a detailed account in The Los Angeles Times, the pair shared an apartment in the city of Phoenix.
