Eleven people travelled from Cork to take part in an illegal sulky road race in Co Laois this morning, despite Covid-19 restrictions.
Gardaí in Portlaoise came across three vehicles parked up at a hotel and retail carpark near the town, while out on a patrol at 5am today.
"This was definitely not an essential journey" a local Garda spokesperson said, " Gardaí reminded them of the current Covid-19 restrictions and they were directed to return home. "
A file is to be sent to the Office of the Director of the Public Prosecutions.
