Man still being questioned over murder of man in Waterford

A man in his 20s and still being questioned at Tramore Garda station in relation to the death of a Portlaw man yesterday.

The man who died has been named as 53-year-old John Lowe, who was from Portlaw.

Gardaí believe he was assaulted in his house on the Coolfins Meadows estate.

When gardaí got to the scene they discovered him unconscious in the house and he was later pronounced dead in hospital.

Mr Lowe had injuries consistent with a serious assault.

He had went to Britain for a long period of his life but had returned to Portlaw in recent years.

It is understood he sustained severe injuries consistent with having been hit with an implement.
