The former President of Colombia Juan Manuel Santos has received the Tipperary International Peace Award at a ceremony in Tipperary town this afternoon.

The former President and Nobel Peace Laureate received the award in recognition of his efforts in bringing peace to Colombia and for the historic agreement that put an end to more than 50 years of fighting by the FARC guerrilla army.

The Tipperary Peace Awards started 35 years ago and previous recipients have included Bill Clinton, Nelson Mandela, Adi Roche, Seán McBride and Ban Ki-moon.
