There have been further calls for an increase in cardiac facilities at University Hospital Waterford.

A protest vigil was held this evening at the front gates of the hospital to coincide with the anniversary of the death of a man who died after having suffered a rupture from a cardiac arrest.

The death of 39-year-old Thomas Power sparked a major campaign for heart treatment services.

He had to be transferred to a hospital in Cork because the cardiac cath lab in Waterford was closed, operating only from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday.

The South East Patient Advocacy Group, along with other campaign groups, organised the vigil at University Hospital Waterford this evening.

Catherine Power, Tom's sister, called on the Government to immediately provide better services.
