The An Bord Pleanála oral hearing into the multi-million euro planned redevelopment of the North Quays in Waterford city has started.

There had been two valid objections to the project but both have now been withdrawn.

The purpose of the hearing is to allow An Bord Pleanála through the report of the appointed senior planning inspector fully understand the application and objections.

The Fawaz Alhokair Group, a Saudi Arabian retail and hotel conglomerate, are planning a new shopping centre and other commercial facilities with a planned spend of around €280 million.

The oral hearing is taking place in Treacy's Hotel in Waterford city.
