Five men are being questioned following an armed robbery in Waterford city this morning.

The men were detained after a sawn-off shot gun was used during the robbery at Cleaboy post office just before 11.30am.

No shots were fired and the raiders escaped with an undisclosed sum of money.

Their getaway car was discovered a short time later about 3km away in a wooded area at the Waterford Institute of Technology Carriganore Campus.

In a follow up search, gardaí arrested five men.

Gardaí have not disclosed if the money taken in the robbery has been recovered, nor have they said if the gun has been found.
