Minister for the Environment Richard Bruton will tell a climate summit in Madrid that Ireland is determined to play its part.

He will also tell the COP25 climate negotiations that Ireland is implementing the Climate Action Plan to ensure we meet our future climate commitments and put the country on a trajectory to be carbon neutral by 2050.

The COP25 climate negotiations are trying to agree the final elements of the rule book for the implementation of the Paris Climate Accord which was agreed in December 2015 and will become effective from the end of next year.

The minister will announce that Ireland has joined the Carbon Neutrality Coalition, which commits the country to develop a roadmap for 2050, to embed the carbon neutrality goal in every element of policy, to mobilise citizens and enterprise.
