Meta is to roll out a new subscription service in Ireland for Instagram and Facebook accounts.
'Meta Verified' will provide users with a verified badge, confirming the account holder's identity.
The company said it will offer more protection from impersonation with proactive account monitoring for impersonators who might target people with growing online audiences.
The verified service will also provide access to a real person for help with common account issues.
Meta Verified will be available for direct purchase on Instagram or Facebook for €16.99 a month on iOS and Android, and €13.99 a month on the web.
It will be rolling out gradually in Ireland over the coming weeks.
"Today we're announcing Meta Verified is starting to roll out in Ireland to help creators establish their presence and build community faster on our platforms," Meta said in a statement.
"We’ve been testing Meta Verified in select markets for a few months and have heard positive feedback from creators."
"The availability of Meta Verified in Ireland is part of the product’s global expansion, announced by Mark Zuckerberg on his Instagram Broadcast Channel in June," the company said.
