The Distress Papers in the National Archives, Ireland, can tell us many stories behind the grim statistics of Famine Ireland. This is a Constabulary Report from 16 April 1846,  detailing the extent of the failure of the potato crop and the number of labourers unemployed in each of the electoral divisions comprising the Dundalk Poor Law Union.
