A 1989 guide to Christmas shopping in London's finest department stores from Barbara McMahon of 'Head to Toe'.
Barbara McMahon advises on Christmas shopping in London in this clip from fashion programme 'Head to Toe'. "Remember to wear light clothing" and "do leave the stilettos behind".
She visits some of London's finest department stores, Harvey Nichols of Knightsbridge, Liberty and Selfridges, all of which have been transformed for Christmas. Harvey Nichols is "renowned for its sophisticated elegance" and has avoided "the typical gaudy glitter of Chrismas". Liberty has gone for a Russian fairy-tale theme with its Christmas window.
Barbara suggests a number of purchases, including a skirt for the Christmas tree bucket from Harvey Nichols, Liberty's famous prints and a reversible coat from Selfridges. But at the end of the day, she recommends viewers do their Christmas shopping at home in comfort. Because "what's wrong with keeping a few bob in Ireland?"
