04: 1980 : Living Beyond Our Means

Taoiseach, Charles J. Haughey, warns that we are all living beyond our means.

Two weeks prior to the budget announcement, the Taoiseach, Charles J. Haughey, warned the Irish people that, "...as a community, we are living away beyond our means". The nation braced itself for Minister of Finance Michael O'Kennedy's budget which was announced on 28 February 1980.
