A Junior Minister has rejected an accusation that our psychiatric services have gone back to pre-Victorian times. The Annual Conference of the Psychiatric Nurses’ Association was told that the development of community services is a disgrace but Minister of State for Health, Noel Treacy, says the system is evolving very successfully.

Report shows conference and interview with Gerry McGuire, Psychiatric Nurses’ Association, who says psychiatric patients are in fact homeless, in prison and that some have committed suicide.

Interview with Treacy who insists there is much more openness in modern psychiatric management.

The reporter is George Devlin.
