The new British Home Secretary, David Waddington, is reported to have ruled out an early appeal in the case of the Birmingham Six, despite calls for a review from leading churchmen. According to Whitehall sources, Waddington does not see the release of the Six as inevitable in the wake of the Guildford Four case.
