Today is the twentieth anniversary of the Burntollet Bridge Ambush, when a group of Northern Civil Rights marchers were attacked by Loyalists as they neared the end of a four-day walk from Belfast to Derry.

Report shows archive footage of march and scenes during the attack.

Interview with Michael Farrell, march organiser, who says the incident highlighted the ‘viciously sectarian nature of the Northern Ireland state and its security forces’. He says the incident offered Britain a missed opportunity to institute reforms in the state which, had they been carried out then, might have preempted the violence that followed.

The reporter is Joe O’Brien.
