A new lecture theatre at the National Institute for Higher Education (NIHE) in Limerick has been named after Sir Charles Parsons. Parsons was an engineer and youngest son of the third Earl of Ross, owner of Birr Castle, a scientist who built the world's biggest telescope in the nineteenth century. Sir Charles Parsons designed and constructed the turbine engine.
