Ceremony to mark the country's first National Day of Commemoration took place today in the Garden Of Remembrance in Dublin.

President Patrick Hillery unveils a commemoration plaque.

The Taoiseach Garret FitzGerald, Reverend Paul Kingston, Methodist Church, Rabbi Ephram Mirvis, Alan Dukes, Michael Noonan, John Cushnahan, Proinsias De Rossa, and Brian Lenihan are in attendance.

The report includes footage of Eamon De Valera at the opening ceremony of the Garden of Remembrance in 1966.
