Adi Roche has written 'Chernobyl Heart 20 Years On' to mark the anniversary of the nuclear disaster.

The launch of 'Chernobyl Heart 20 Years On' by Adi Roche took place at Dublin Castle. Guest of honour at the event is Alexi Barrett, a 10 year old survivor of the Chernobyl disaster. Alexi was adopted by Len Barrett, sister of Aid Roche, founder of the Chernobyl Children's Project. A chapter in the book is dedicated to his story.

On 26 April 1986, reactor number 4 of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant exploded. Twenty years on a terrible legacy remains. The book documents the physical, emotional and psychological trauma caused by the tragedy.

Adi Roche said she set out in the book to describe the emotional and physical impact on ordinary people as well as the larger environmental consequences. She warns that a similar tragedy could happen again.

Fellow campaigner, Ali Hewson, said that the book is a reminder of the dangers of nuclear activity.

Over the past 15 years, Chernobyl's Children's Project has delivered over €60 million of aid to the devastated region.
