The smell of freshly baked cakes fills the Main Hall at the RDS during the National Catering Exhibition.
The eighth annual National Catering Exhibition is the largest to date and has 90 stands with modern kitchen equipment on display.
One of the main attractions of the event is the international cooking competitions. Lord Mayor of Dublin, Fergus O'Brien and Bill Phelan, Chairman of the Catering Equipment Association, inspected the display of cakes in the confectionery competition. There were almost 3,000 entries to this competition, with gold, silver and bronze medals being awarded in all classes. An overall winner will be chosen at the end of the exhibition.
The international competitions attracted teams from Norway, West Germany and the Netherlands, along with 400 individual entries. The event gives Irish chefs the opportunity to get a place on the national team in next year's competitions.
