An exhibition tracing the struggle by Irish women for the right to vote opens in Tullamore, County Offaly.
Journalist, broadcaster, and activist Hilary Boyle opens the exhibition of photographs, postcards, cartoons, letters and newspaper cuttings relating to the Irish women's suffrage movement.
The exhibition in Tullamore features 28 stands tracing the beginning and development of the Irish women's struggle for the vote between 1876 and 1918.
The same exhibition was first shown at Trinity College Dublin last October. Since then, it has toured a number of provincial centres around the country. It is appropriate that Tullamore would host such an exhibition, as Tullamore Gaol housed a number of suffragettes who were sent to prison for their activism. The plan is to present the exhibits to the National Library of Ireland.
