Dublin Corporation will shut the Ha'penny Bridge for approximately six months to carry out a £1.6 million restoration project.
A temporary footbridge has been installed beside the Ha'penny Bridge to cater for the 27,000 pedestrians that cross the Liffey at this point every day.
The Ha'penny Bridge will be cleaned and painted and a new deck installed some minor structural repairs will also be carried out.
The original fabric of the bridge will be re-used and retained where possible in the project. Belfast Harland and Wolff shipyard has been awarded the contract to provide the structural steelwork which will ensure the iconic footbridge continues to span the Liffey.
