The Wren Boys are out in force in Dingle west Kerry, for a tradition that celebrates the king of birds.
Lá an Dreoilín, the much loved Wren Day, takes place each year on 26th December.
Pre-Christian in origin, the Wren was once celebrated throughout Ireland.
Dingle in County Kerry is one of the remaining strongholds for celebrating Wren Day with music, costumes and noise marking the day.
Fergus O'Flahery, of the Green and Gold group, says that many of the traditions stem from the winter solstice on 21 December. Tom Lynch, also of the Green and Gold group, is in the thick of the marching band as they perform 'Take Her Away Down To The Quay'. One of the more famous faces to line out for the Green and Gold group on this special day is Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh.
The like of it can not be seen anywhere on earth from the north pole to the south pole.
For local woman, Helen Lovett, Wren Day is the best day of all.
Other wren groups in Dingle include Sráid Eoin, Goat's Street and the Quay. The groups spend the day collecting money for local charities.
