John Barry was born in Wexford in 1745. He later moved to America, where he volunteered his services during the American Revolution (1765–1783).
Tánaiste Brendan Corish inspected a guard of honour of An Slua Muirí drawn from numbers three and four companies. then laid a wreath at the Commodore John Barry monument at Crescent Quay in Wexford. John Grattan Esmonde TD and the United States military attaché Col JP Berres alo laid wreaths. The US national anthem was played by the band of Wexford's Holy Family Confraternity.
