A new approach to house construction cuts costs and offers big savings for purchasers.

In Cork, a building company demonstrates a new system that could revolutionise house construction in the country, while also producing a 33% saving for purchasers. The method, which incorporates a five minute roofing operation, has the approval of the Institute for Industrial Research and Standards. It is similar to that used in the United States, Canada and Scandinavian countries.

Prefabrication of the roof enables them to complete a house in six weeks, rather than a more normal four to six months.

In the Cork demonstration at Kensington, Rochestown Road, a complete roof is lifted into position on a bungalow in a matter of minutes. The company using the system also claims that the use of a fibreglass layer in the roof and walls cuts fuel costs by 16%. The builder is Noel Parkes, and the bungalows cost in the region of £14,000.
