A massive storm hit the country during the night, causing severe damage and flooding. The worst summer storm in memory submerges fields, destroys crops, and fells trees. Homeowners clear up the mess left in the wake of the storm.
In Northern Ireland, following 12 hours of torrential rain, the British Army were deployed in flood rescue work. In the wake of the downpour, hundreds of families from all over Belfast are evacuated, and flood relief centres are opened to aid them. The Royal Ulster Constabulary (RUC) serves hot meals to flood victims in their police station canteen on the Ormeau Road.
