A new airstrip opens in Birr, County Offaly.

A new 2,000 foot long strip located a little over a mile outside Birr is next to the former Crinkle military barracks, which was destroyed during the Civil War in 1922.

Officially opened by Austin Gleeson, president of the Birr Chamber of Commerce, this is the first licensed landing strip in the midlands. The land on which the airstrip is located has been leased from a local farmer by the chamber of commerce.
