Ulster Defence Regiment members guarding a power station are overpowered and their weapons stolen.
At around 3.00 am, four armed and masked men cut through the perimeter fence at the Coolkeragh base and made their way to the UDR guard hut. The two guards on duty and four more were overpowered and tied to their beds.
The raiders left with six self-loading rifles and almost 200 rounds of ammunition.
A round the clock UDR guard is maintained at the power station in support of security staff.
Whoever carried out the raid clearly knew how the security was maintained and where the UDR hut was located.
