Pilgrims travel to Saint MacDara's Island off the Connemara coast.
The annual pilgrimage to St MacDara's Island, Cruach na Cara as Gaeilge, takes place on the 16th July which is the saint’s feast day.
This small rocky island off the coast of Carna is associated with the sixth-century saint who came here as a hermit and has long been the patron saint of Connemara fisherman.
The pilgrims make a short boat trip and an outdoor Mass is celebrated at the oratory. Now in ruins, it is reputed to have been constructed on the site of St MacDara’s original mediaeval chapel.
