The Defence Forces provide a replacement public transport service during an industrial dispute.
The dispute between the NBU (National Busmen's Union) and CIÉ (Córas Iompair Éireann) related to pay and working conditions .Drivers began a strike on 11 June interrupting the bus services.
Members of the Defence Forces help workers in Dublin board army lorries which will travel from the outer suburbs to the city centre in the mornings, making the return journey at the end of the working day.
The strike shows no signs of ending, and people who depend on public transport are particularly affected.
Across the country CIÉ bus services are not in operation, and the dispute has impacted CIÉ coach tours, the postal system and some rail services.
