Restrictions on interactions between people during the COVID-19 pandemic bring a new approach to dating.
Thomas Crosse is one of many people who have been navigating the world of dating during COVID-19 restrictions. With the usual dating spots of pubs, restaurants and nightclubs closed, Thomas Crosse has taken things online and his approach is to treat it as a normal date but through a laptop.
Dating coach, Annie Lavin, says there has been an increase in anxiety and loneliness amongst some people, both couples and singles.
They're really feeling as though they're not in control of their lives at the moment.
While at present couples living in separate houses can not meet, this may soon change as long as they live within 5km of each other. However, they will have to stay two metres apart.
Spunout.ie, a platform for youth information and support, says that many couples will welcome the easing of restrictions even if they still have to keep a distance. Ian Power, CEO of Spunout.ie, says that the COVID-19 social distancing restrictions are particularly difficult for young people as they are unlikely to be cohabiting with their boyfriends or girlfriends.
