A Galway man wants to see the revival of water wheels and turbines to generate electricity.
For the past four years Seán Walsh's home in Moycullen has been heated and lit by hydroelectric energy. He constructed a small generating plant to harness the power of a small local river, and to date this innovative approach has served him well,
It’s free, it’s running there constantly.
Seán Walsh has been campaigning for the re-introduction of hydroelectric schemes on the river Corrib, which could generate five to eight megawatts of power. He believes this would be sufficient to power schools, convents and enough to keep the regional hospital in supply.
