Young people need to understand that by not gathering in groups they will help save lives.

A stark warning from the World Health Organisation says that how people behave socially during the pandemic could be life and death for someone else.

Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Coveney said young people need to understand the importance of social distancing in saving lives. The social behaviour of congregating in large groups needs to be confronted. The tánaiste acknowledges that the notion of social distancing is abstract.

With schools and colleges closed as part of the restrictions imposed to prevent the spread of COVID-19, some young people are continuing to gather in groups despite public health advice. The message is that staying apart can save lives.

Musicians and DJs have also come out to urge young people to abide by the safety messages.

It's important that we all pull together to stay apart.

Walkers on Dún Laoghaire pier agree that young people need to play their part in preventing the spread of the virus.
