Kader Asmal returns to Ireland as a Minister in the new South African government.

South African Minister for Water Affairs and Forestry and former TCD law professor Kader Asmal is in Trinity College Dublin to deliver a lecture on the new South African constitution.

The founder of the Irish Anti-Apartheid Movement became a cabinet minister earlier this year in South Africa's first multi-racial government under President Nelson Mandela.

Remaining as involved as ever in Irish issues, he recently met with representatives of the main Northern Ireland political parties, and advised them to continue working towards peace,

For many years Kader Asmal was the public face of the anti-apartheid movement in Ireland. While some during those years may have wondered if their actions could make a difference, he says South African government intelligence files show that marches against apartheid and boycotts of South African goods did have an impact,
