The film of the dark comedy The League of Gentlemen is being shot in the Wicklow countryside.

The League of Gentlemen is already a cult hit as a television show. Following the success of the series, locations in Derby became must visit destinations for fans. This new film adaptation is using Irish locations near Avoca in County Wicklow to create the world of Royston Vasey.

Actor writer Reece Shearsmith explains the logistics of filming complex scenes where a church just outside Avoca has been transformed for the collision of three worlds.

When the Royston Vasey regulars meet the real-life writers and their latest creation, a bunch of 18th century characters.

This is the third major film being made at the moment in Ireland with another half a dozen in pre-production. The government's decision to renew Section 481 has benefited the film industry in addition to providing local employment.

Producer of the film Greg Brenman says that the benefit of being based out of Dublin is that within an hour or so, locations by the sea and the mountains can be found. He also admits the tax incentives for filming in Ireland are a good incentive.

The League of Gentlemen's dark, off-the-wall sense of humour does not appeal to everyone but if internet chat is anything to go by, devout of fans are already looking forward to the film.
