Climate activist group, Extinction Rebellion plan a week of protest and disruption in Dublin city centre.

Extinction Rebellion in Ireland will join up to 50 other countries in what they are calling 'Rebellion Week', to take place in capital cities around the world. The movement demands that governments take action on the climate emergency.

Earlier in the year Extinction Rebellion brought Dublin city centre to a standstill blocking off O'Connell Bridge for around six hours.

Members of the group said they'll shut down business as usual using protest and civil disobedience.

Paul McCormack Cooney, a member of Extinction Rebellion, says the group have already tried the normal channels of protest such as petitions and writing to politicians. However, this has not worked.

The rally will be led through Dublin by a pink sailboat named 'Bígí Linn' which translates as 'Join Us'. Manuel Salazar explains the boat is a symbol of the situation we are all in if nothing is done about climate change, then the boat will go down.

Another member of the group Caitriona Kenny is hopeful that the government will listen to their concerns.

We're ordinary people who are genuinely terrified about the future.

Organisers of the week-long camp say that the event will be family friendly.
