A diverse exhibition showcases art acquired for Ireland's national and regional museums and galleries.

The exhibition marking the 75th anniversary of the Friends of the National Collections of Ireland was officially opened by President Mary McAleese.

The Friends of the National Collections of Ireland was founded in 1924 by artist Sarah Purser. The objective of the group was to secure works of art and objects of interest for the country's national and public collections.

Paintings, sculptures and other items which might otherwise have left Ireland.

Former Director of the National Gallery of Ireland, Dr James White, explains that every city and town in Ireland, both north and south, has received works of art from this organisation.

The current exhibition, which runs at the RHA Gallagher Gallery and the Hugh Lane Municipal Gallery includes more than 150 works of artistic importance and historical interest dating from the 16th century to the present day.
