Worries about potential pollution to Lough Boyle from an increase in tourism and business.
Kenneth Stewart, President of the Boyle Chamber of Commerce, warns of possible pollution on Lough Boyle from an increase in motorboat activity and the growth in the number of people visiting Lough Key Forest Park.
We do want to see that the beautiful amenities provided here are kept intact for tourists and for our own people who visit here in increasing numbers.
Alarmed about levels of pollution recorded on similar lakes, Kenneth Stewart recently said that Lough Boyle had the potential to become a scum laden swamp within five years.
The Boyle Chamber of Commerce is seeking the establishment of a Shannon Authority which would have powers to control development along the River Shannon. This authority would cooperate and coordinate the efforts and plans made by the ESB, the Board of Works, the Department of Lands and the County Councils.
