The Abbey Theatre will stage a new production of the Dion Boucicault play 'The Shaughraun'.
John McColgan who had so much success Riverdance is directing this production of 'The Shaughraun' and there are hopes to bring the play to the West End and Broadway.
The Abbey's new production of The Shaughraun has more than a flavour of Riverdance.
The nineteenth century play by Dion Boucicault was not an obvious choice for John McColgan but he saw the possibilities for fun, high energy and adventure.
There's action hero people swinging from ropes, there's magic, there's illusions, there's dancing, there's singing, there's great comedy.
This production will be John McColgan's debut as a director at the Abbey Theatre. The play stars Adrian Dunbar who enjoyed the physical challenge of the role which involves singing and dancing.

The Abbey Theatre is hopeful that the show will go on tour outside of Ireland. Producers from both the UK and the United States have already expressed interest and are coming to see 'The Shaughraun' in Dublin.
