Developing the tourist potential of Achill Island.

Achill Tourist Development Association wants to provide employment by promoting the island as a hoiliday destination. More and more young people on the island are unwilling to emigrate and are seeking job opportunities at home.

Greater emphasis than ever before is now being placed on developing the tourist potential of the island.

Keem Strand is just one of the atractions the Achill Tourist Development Association is using to attract more visitors. Hotelier Chris Connaughton explains the economy of Achill depends on the tourism industry amounting to around £250,000 in revenue. While July and August are the peak periods for tourism, the association is attempting to extend the season into September.

There is plenty for visitors to Achill to do and enjoy. There are ballad sessions while outdoor events include fishing, golfing, mountain climbing, cycling and sailing. This year Achill Tourist Development Association campaign is primarily geared towards attracting visits from people living in Ireland.
