Glenveagh Estate in Donegal has been acquired by the state and will become a national park.

Situated between Letterkenny and Dungloe, Glenveagh Estate encompasses 25,000 acres.

It was purchased in 1937 by Irish-American millionaire Henry McIlhenny of Philadelphia who restored the castle and developed the gardens. The estate also has extensive parklands and forests, and its own herd of red deer.
