A musical dramatising the last six years of the life of Michael Collins is set to open at Cork Opera House.

'Michael Collins A Musical Drama' covers the 1916 Rising, the War of Independence, the Civil War and Collins' relationship with Kitty Kiernan.

The cast and crew of Michael Collins were busy ironing out the last of the glitches before tonight's opening performance of the musical dramatisation of the last six years of Collins' life.

Writer and director of the show, Bryan Flynn describes Michael Collins as a great statesman and leader who was willing to use violence to achieve peace.

The role of Michael Collins will be played by Killian Donnelly and Eoin Cannon.

The show is due to run at Cork Opera House for two weeks and the producers are confident it will tour nationally after that.
