Dublin Corporation offers an environmentally friendly way to dispose of Christmas trees.

Christmas tree disposal is a problem for householders every January. Dublin Corporation has come up with an innovative way to recycle an expected 30,000 trees. At 11 designated locations around the city, Christmas trees can be dropped off to be turned into garden mulch for use by the Parks Department.

Dublin Corporation park superintendent Gerry Barry believes the recycling scheme offers a viable alternative to illegal dumping while also conserving essential space in dumps and tips. He describes the mulching process adding,

We'd hope that people would remove the decorations from the trees but we do get some trees with the odd sparklers left.

Householders in the Dublin Corporation area can leave their old Christmas trees at the recycling points around the city until 14 January.
