Kerry farmer receives an early Christmas present when his donkey Tulip gives birth to healthy twin foals.
Although he largely keeps dry stock at his 35 acre farm near Killarney in County Kerry, Cormac Williams also has pet donkeys. In an exceptionally rare occurrence, one of his seven donkeys, 8 year old mare Tulip, has given birth to two healthy foals.
It's a once in a lifetime event.
According to the experts around 1.5 percent of donkey births are twins and in just over 10 percent of those cases, both foals survive.
Given the season, Cormac Williams has named the extraordinary twins Snow and Flake.
The stallion that sired the twins also lives on the farm.
It was a surprise; he did a good day’s work anyway for me, on this occasion.
