The European Economic Community makes reduced priced butter available to individuals in receipt of social assistance.

Last month, Minister for Agriculture Jim Gibbons announced that 1,600 tonnes of cheap butter would go on sale. The butter is available to purchase in most shops and is limited to two pounds in weight per customer to ensure equitable distribution. People in receipt of social welfare payments receive butter vouchers under the EEC Social Assistance Butter Plan.
