The Royal Theatre and Events Centre in Castlebar is open again following a complete renovation.

The biggest new indoor entertainment venue in the West of Ireland opens its doors following a 12 million euro revamp. The official opening was marked by a performance of Riverdance which run at the new venue for a week.

Riverdance are back in Mayo for a week long series of shows at the new multi-purpose entertainment venue in Castlebar.

Caroline Conway was in the audience and described the Riverdance performance as amazing.

The Royal Theatre has a capacity of 2,200 seats or 4,500 standing. Proprietors of the venue are husband and wife team Pat and Mary Jennings. Pat Jennings says that the objective of the redevelopment was to bring the West End to the west. Mary Jennings explains that the venue will now attract the biggest shows to the west of Ireland.

The Royal Theatre hopes to provide a boost to business in Castlebar by attracting national events that have never before been staged in the west of Ireland.
