Local customs and traditions including making butter part of a fund raising evening in County Sligo.
An unusual night of entertainment in Tubbercurry with performances of old ballads, a photographic exhibition, and press cuttings from the local show dating back to 1855.
The most spectacular event of the evening was the display of churning and churning equipment.
According to local custom, anyone who entered a house during churning had to participate in the activity. If not, they would invite evil spirits to steal the butter. When the churning was completed, the first cup of buttermilk was auctioned and the buyer reluctantly tasted his purchase. Also up for auction were the first rolls of butter raising much needed funds for a local charity.
