New Land legislation will help create a 'nation of peasant proprietors', the Dáil has been informed.

The Bill, which was accepted by all parties and which passed through the report stage in the Dáil yesterday, has been hailed by Mr. Darrell Figgis TD as both a ‘very great achievement’ and a ‘very great landmark’, not least because it was built on the principle of establishing a ‘nation of peasant proprietors.’

A statement is expected soon announcing the dissolution of the Dáil and the holding of a general election in late August or early September at the latest.

July 12th Boyne celebrations held across historic province of Ulster
Belfast, 13 July 1923
The 233rd anniversary of the Battle of the Boyne was celebrated across the historic province of Ulster and not just in the newly created Northern Ireland. While Belfast was, as usual, the setting for the largest demonstration, 3,000 Orangemen from Cavan and Monaghan also assembled in Clones.

Ford in Cork completes its first motor car amid concerns about factory’s future

The first motor car to be completely manufactured and assembled at the Ford Motor Plant at the Marina Works in Cork was last evening rolled onto the streets of Cork City.

Heatwave takes toll despite rain reprieve
Mayo, 16 July 1923
There was temporary relief from Ireland’s July heatwave yesterday as heavy rain fell over midlands and western counties where temperatures were reported to have fallen by 10 degree Fahrenheit. The rain fell lighter in Dublin, to little effect on the warm, muggy conditions until later in the evening when a heavier downpour helped reduce temperatures.

Searches continue after jail breaks in Clonmel and Wicklow

On the 23rd of July Just days after more than forty republican prisoners mounted a spectacular escape from a barracks in Clonmel, Co. Tipperary, a further manhunt is underway after five prisoners escaped from a Wicklow Jail.
